***PLEASE NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGES-WAKE TUESDAY, FUNERAL WEDNESDAY***
Michael Boyle
9/17/40 – 5/6/25
Michael Boyle passed away peacefully at his home in East Durham on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his bedside. He was born on September 17th, 1940, to Hugh and MaryAnn Boyle. The third eldest of eight children, Michael was raised in Annahagh North, Scotstown, Co. Monaghan and attended school at Aghnashalvey National School. A hard- working man from a young age, he moved to Preston, England for work in his teenage years. It was here that Michael met the love of his life, Bridget (nee Mulvihill) Boyle, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2013.
Michael and Bridie got married on November 30th, 1963, in England. The two emigrated to America together in the 1970’s. They landed in the Woodlawn area of The Bronx where they started to build their American Dream. Michael worked all over the city for the Local 608 Carpenters Union until his retirement. They eventually built a home and settled in East Durham in the Catskill Mountains of New York. East Durham always fondly reminded them of the green hills of Ireland.
With hands of gold, there was nothing Michael enjoyed more than tinkering in the garage or maintaining his beautiful property. His favorite job of all was being a labrador father to his 4 precious dogs over the years, Candy, Hank, Maggie, and Candy. These dogs were his children and provided him and Bridie with much happiness over the years.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, his wife Bridie Boyle, his older brother Francis Boyle, his younger sister Mary Gibbons (nee Boyle), and many good friends he met throughout the years. He is survived by his sisters, Margaret and Alice, and brothers Hugh and Bernard. He is also survived by a big family of many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, all who will forever hold their Uncle Michael in high esteem and regard. Michael will also be sorely missed by many good friends that he made in his 84 years. The Irish Alps will never shine as brightly without the smile of Michael Boyle on Mackey Road.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 13th from 5 until 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, May 14th at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Knock Shrine, 2052 State Route 145, East Durham, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
