Obituary of William K. Hendricks

MARTINSBURG, PA – William Kenneth “Bill” Hendricks, 86, formerly of Freehold, NY, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2025 at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center in Roaring Spring, PA.

            Bill was born in Catskill on May 19, 1939, a son of the late Herbert R. and Emily R. Hamm Hendricks.  Bill was twice married, first in 1958 to Alice M. Bahr, who predeceased him on October 4, 1995, and then in 1998 he married Mary J. Cunfer Greene.  He was a graduate of Catskill High School, class of 1957, Russell Sage College with a Bachelor’s in Accounting, and was a graduate of Lancaster Theological Seminary, class of 1999, with a Master of Divinity.  Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran who carried out numerous operations aboard a Minesweeper during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

            Bill was employed as an accountant by the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance, retiring in 1995.  He also served as the former Pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bedford, and with the Greenfield Charge of the United Church of Christ.

            Bill was a faithful member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Martinsburg.  In his youth, he was a member of the Catskill Boys Club, where he won many trophies for weightlifting and bodybuilding.  He also was an avid reader, and loved spending time with his family, watching movies, sketching, and drawing.

            Bill is survived by his beloved wife Mary of 27 years; five sons, Michael L. Hendricks of FL, Lester W. Hendricks (Tricia) of Pensacola, FL, Jason D. Hendricks (Eve) of Milford, CT, Jeremy A. Greene (Beth) of Tannersville, PA, and William D. Greene of Jersey Shore, PA; a daughter, Melissa A. Shirk (John) of Jersey Shore; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a son, Jonathan E. Hendricks; and seven siblings.

            A calling hour will be Tuesday, June 3rd from 10 until 11 a.m. in St. John’s United Church of Christ, Martinsburg.  Celebration of Life service and military honors will follow at 11 a.m. in the church, Rev. James Neatrour and Rev. David Ackerman officiating.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

            Another calling hour will be Thursday, June 5th from 1 until 2 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.  Memorial service will begin at 2 p.m., followed by burial of his ashes in Freehold Cemetery.  Condolences may be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.
