Obituary of Dennis Robert Porter

Dennis “Denny” Robert Porter, 68, of Berne, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at The Grand at Guilderland. He was born at home in Berne on October 30, 1956, a son of the late Robert Porter and the late Esther (née Lee) Porter.

Denny spent his youth in South Berne and was a proud graduate of Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School. He dedicated his career to serving others at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance as a mail clerk, where he worked with steady reliability until his retirement.

 A man who found joy in simple pleasures, Denny loved hunting and enjoyed playing Pinochle with his brothers and nephews. He was a longtime member of the Berne Masonic Lodge, whose fellowship he cherished.

 Family meant everything to him, and he carried a quiet strength and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him.

 Denny was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers Garry and Ronald Porter, his sister Carol Brate, and a nephew Scott Porter.

 He will be deeply missed by those who survive him: his brother David Porter; nephews Stephen Porter, John (Lori) Porter, Jeff (Michelle) Brate, Michael (Chris) Porter; nieces Carol Ann (Jamie) Rapp, Amy (Heath) Bartlett, Katie (Stephen) Maurer, and Vickie (Chris) Mockler; as well as many great-nieces and -nephews and their families who cherished him.

 Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 3, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at A. J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Officers and members of Berne Masonic Lodge will conduct a Ritual Service at 5:30 PM. A funeral service led by Pastor William Balta will follow at 6 PM.

Burial will take place on Saturday, October 4, at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1820 Helderberg Trail, Berne, NY.
