Obituary of Janis Thornton
DURHAM – Janis “Trudy” Thornton joined our Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Janis was born in Brooklyn on June 7, 1950, to the late Charles Mammarella Sr. and Pearl Tomson. She was married to Joseph F. Thornton for 58 years and they had one daughter, Janis Thornton Moore who is married to Michael Moore. Janis also has one granddaughter, Alysha Thornton, and two great-grandchildren, Josie Thornton and Joseph A. Thornton. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Mammarella Jr. Janis was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Claudia Ziegler and Sharon Tomson, and her brother, Freddy Tomson.
Janis ran the Durham Post Office for 38 years, until it closed. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching her favorite TV shows and her beloved Disney movies. She also enjoyed doing word searches.
A calling hour will be on Monday, October 20th from 10 until 11 a.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial at 1:30 p.m. in Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, or the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center will be appreciated.
