I just found out about one of my best of friends through out my High School years. I remember one baseball game in particular when a scout from the Pirates came to watch our game. They missed out on one of the most talented men that I ever had the privilege of competing alongside of. He is probably the reason we went 13-0-1 in soccer as well. He was a dependable friend. And a truly honest soul. I will always treasure your memory Matthew. Hope to see you again soon. Donna, I’m so sorry for your loss. Please know he has impacted so many lives

Matt, shocked and saddened by hearing of your passing much too soon... for me ever the memory of you and your agility at short stop sending balls around the infield with such accuracy and precision. Great memories too of those Pickup football games at the park with your brothers Walt and Joe, Tim, Jim and others as we played our hearts each Sunday afternoon before the fall nights called it a day.
Deepest condolences to all your family and friends who will miss your presence.
With a heavy heart, Richard Atkinson

I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Matt. My memory of him growing up or a person with a kind heart. There were many occasions when I was driving through Grapeville and stop at the store and visit with him for a little bit. Deepest sympathies to the family.

Fond memories of a time so very long ago .. a fun summer at "the store" where you welcomed in the city kid and taught me how to enjoy the simple pleasures of country living. ..beer can tab chains, dirt bike rides, and a lot of laughter. ..all these decades later I still smile at the memories. ..condolences to your family,, my warm thoughts to all.

When you got to know Matt you learned to listen carefully and pay attention. If you listened and watched his actions, you knew that he was a man of character who deeply loved his wife, daughters, grandchildren and extended family. You knew integrity, personal values and doing the best he could do was important to him. To watch Donna and Matt interact over the last 35 years showed the complete love they had for each other. To watch Matt lead and support his daughters through life has been like watching the definition of a what a father should be. He was always there when we needed him and his work was always perfection. When we told our family of his passing, everyone had the same story. Game night, our house, lots of noise from all the kids and adults- except Matt who was sound asleep on the sofa in the next room. Remembering so many family times from our wedding when he was forced to not wear a flannel shirt, to the baptism of the girls when he was forced to not wear a flannel shirt, to the 25th anniversary vow renewal when he was forced to not where a flannel shirt, to the lunches and visits when he was allowed to wear his flannel shirts! That's the Matt we will remember. A man who was loved his family with all his being, could make a piece of wood do anything he wanted it to do and a man who treated his wife with so much love and respect. To Donna, Devon, Nikki, Kyle we are only a call away and here if you need us anytime of the day or night. To Donna, we should be there!

Despite a big difference in our ages, Matt and I spent a large portion of our lives together. He went to Kindergarten the year I started college. I later coached his Little League team. He excelled at soccer, and I believe he led his High School team in goals his Senior year. We played on numerous softball teams together and actually won the Ravena Pub Tournament one year with Matt as our 15 yr old shortstop. Whether it was doubleheaders at Brennan’s on Sunday afternoons, or Ice Hockey on the lake in Grapeville on Saturday nights, Matt was a competitor. Matt was also the only one in the family with mechanical ability. He became ‘Mr. Fixit’ for all of our home projects. He was always there for the Family, especially our Mom who lived next door. He was an athlete, a devoted husband and father, a hard worker and I’m going to miss him.
R.I.P. Little Brother,
Walt Labuda
