Obituary of Margaret F. Tompkins

CONESVILLE - Margaret Candace Fancher Tompkins, 94, of Bearkill Road, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Robinson Terrace.

          Margaret was born at home in Conesville on August 12, 1932, a daughter of the late Jesse and Mabel Puffer Fancher. She was a 1950 graduate of Gilboa-Conesville Central School.  Margaret married her husband, Audrey Tompkins, on June 15, 1951.  Margaret retired from Gilboa-Conesville Central School in 1995 where she was known as “Gram” to a number of young people.  She was a lifelong member of the Conesville Methodist Chapel, a member of the Conesville Fire Company Auxiliary for more than 50 years, member of the Conesville Fire Police, member of the Mountaintop Oasis Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, and member of the Conesville Mountaintop Seniors, where she was one of the founding members.

          Margaret is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Tompkins and Susan (Kelly) Smith; grandchildren, Brian Flores, Tobey (Liz) Flores, Scott (Lauren) Smith and Adam (Corinne) Smith; great grandchildren, Keith Smith, Justus Smith, Tristan Flores, Eleanor Flores, Luis Flores and Silas Flores; great great grandchild, Willow Smith; brother, Ronald Fancher; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Audrey Tompkins; her daughter, Joan Tompkins Assini; and her siblings, Stanley and Irene Fancher.

          Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, September 1^st at 2 p.m. at the Conesville Methodist Chapel, 1295 State Route 990-V, Conesville, followed by a lunch at the Conesville Fire Hall.  There are no calling hours.  Private burial will be in the Manorkill Rural Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Conesville Rescue Squad at 1292 State Route 990-V, Gilboa, NY 12076, or the Conesville Methodist Chapel at 133 Champlin Road, Gilboa, NY 12076, will be appreciated.  Condolence messages may be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.
