Obituary of Denis G. Mahoney

GREENVILLE – Denis G. Mahoney, 78, of Norton Hill, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. He was born in Brooklyn on August 20, 1942, son of the late Dennis and Agnes Schuler Mahoney. Denis was retired from the College of Mount St. Vincent in Riverdale, where he was a Professor and Chairman of the English Department. He served for many years as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville. Denis divided his time between Norton Hill and Hastings-on-Hudson, Westchester County, where he stayed with his cousin Janet. He enjoyed working with his students and colleagues, and loved his family and friends. Denis lived a faith-centered life, and enjoyed caring for his cousin’s guide dogs, who were his pets. Denis is survived by his cousins, Janet E. Lokay, and Cornelius (Edith) Sullivan; and many friends. Relatives and friends may call at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, on Tuesday, December 29 at 11 a.m., and are welcome to remain for the Funeral Mass which will be offered at 12 noon. Masks are required, and social distancing will be observed. Spring burial will be in the family lot in Greenville Cemetery.
