Obituary of John D. Hynes

In Loving Memory of John 'Skip' Hynes
August 6, 1935 – December 27, 2024

John “Skip” Hynes, 89, of Greenville, NY, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, where he was residing. Born on August 6, 1935 in Brooklyn NY, Skip was a devoted husband, cherished father and stepfather, and a steadfast friend to all who knew him.

Skip embraced his role as a father and stepfather with boundless love and unwavering dedication, touching the lives of all with his wisdom, kindness, and a heart full of generosity. He was more than a father figure—he was a source of encouragement, guidance, and unconditional love.

A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Skip deeply loved his country and his God. He took great joy in guiding others, sharing his wisdom, and creating countless cherished memories at the Lake House, where he spent much of his later years.

Skip’s warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcy (Bostrom) Hynes; his two sons, John Michael Hynes and Kevin Hynes; and his five stepdaughters: Diane (Malecki) Barber, Joyce (Malecki) Hyatt, Tina (Cunningham) Galante, Ruey (Cunningham) Bryan, and Leslie (Cunningham) Graziano. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends and loved ones.

A graveside ceremony will be announced at a later date.  Condolence messages may be posted at ajcunninghamfh.com.

In lieu of cards or flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org, a cause close to Skip’s heart.

Though Skip may no longer walk among us, his legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to call him family and friend.

Semper-Fi  Skip. As he always said, “Keep smiling.”
